From a Genetic Discovery to a Saudi Diagnostic Reality: ThromboKASP™
Hereditary thrombophilia — an inherited tendency toward abnormal blood clotting — affects thousands of people in Saudi Arabia every year, yet accurate genetic screening for it has long relied on costly, time-intensive methods or testing sent abroad.
ThromboKASP™, developed by Reham Altwayan during her master's program and now brought to market as founder of AlphaGene, is changing that. It is a locally developed genetic panel that screens for five well-established hereditary markers linked to thrombophilia risk, built on a fast, reliable PCR-based genotyping platform. Where traditional testing can take days, ThromboKASP™ is designed to deliver results in hours — making early risk detection more accessible to hospitals, research centers, and genetic testing laboratories across the Kingdom.
Where the project stands today
ThromboKASP™ has completed its preclinical evaluation phase, demonstrating strong and consistent analytical performance. The project is now advancing into an Authorized Performance Clinical Study, a required step toward compiling the technical file for SFDA Medical Device Marketing Authorization (MDMA) certification — the regulatory approval needed to bring an in vitro diagnostic device to the Saudi market.
This progression reflects AlphaGene's broader mission: taking promising scientific research and patents, and building them into real, regulator-ready products — not just publishing findings, but seeing them through to patients and laboratories that need them.
A trusted clinical partner
ThromboKASP™'s clinical validation is being conducted in partnership with the National Guard Hospital, reflecting AlphaGene's commitment to rigorous, hospital-grade evidence as the panel moves toward SFDA authorization.
An invitation to researchers and inventors
ThromboKASP™ began as a research collaboration, and that spirit continues to shape how AlphaGene works. If you're a researcher or inventor with a discovery, a validated concept, or a patent with real-world potential, we'd love to explore how we can take it further — together.
